When a global leader was seeing mid to high double-digit trend on Rx costs, it caused them to step back and consider fairly extreme measures on the drug side.

Buck Consultants saw an opportunity to gradually restructure their co-pay and benefit design to “Flex Rx” thus creating incentives for employees to become more consumer-oriented in their drug purchasing. Savings that started at 2 percent are estimated to reach 10 percent in the next year.

Employee behavior changed toward maximum use of generic drugs and appropriate distribution for maintenance medications.
